Dr Klaus Hellgardt is Professor of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, a long-term collaborator with Peter Nixon on algal research projects. The Hellgardt group has designed and characterised photobioreactos for plants and algae. He has been a main collaborator from the beginning of Algae Printing since 2012. His research interests and projects include:
- Algae and cyanobacteria (hydrogen, biofuels, biomass, bioceuticals)
- Biomass Reforming (APR, biogas, oxygenates)
- Biofuels (biodiesel, pyrolysis oil upgrading)
- Bio-photolytic and photo-electrochemical Hydrogen Production
- Hydrothermal and supercritical fluids processing (algae, biomass, heavy oil)
- Flow Chemistry (multiphase electrochemical flow, partial oxidations, aminations, esterification, amide reduction)
- Unconventional Fuel Cells (Carbon/Air, reverse sold oxide, sulphide)
- Flux Response Technology
- Hydrotreating (HDS, HDN, HDM – heavy oils)
